Travel Log for Melvin: Day 2 - Amsterdam, Netherlands

Today we arrived in Amsterdam but without our checked luggage.

The 2:65 PM flight out of Wichita was late because of bad weather in Chicago. We did not know this until we went through security in Wichita. We knew we would miss our connection in Chicago so we went out of security and to the front disk to see if we could get some of our flights changed. After searching other airlines and even those that would route us via London we were transferred to a flight on American Airlines to Chicago from our flight on United Airlines. We got to Chicago at the same time that the United Plane that we were scheduled on was starting boarding. We had a long walk in the terminal at O'Hare to get to our plane but we did make it in time. The plane left Chicago and arrived in Amsterdam around the scheduled time of 9:30 AM today. When we found out that our luggage did not make it we filed the paper work for missing luggage and left the airport at Amsterdam via a cab for the Viking Sky Ship. We arrived at the ship at 11 AM and I had some lunch.

At 1:00 PM I left on a walking tour of some of the area of Amsterdam around the ship. We went as far as the Anna Frank house from the ship. We saw many of the homes which have been converted into houses of the old buildings of Amsterdam. These buildings were built on filled land and some of them have structure problems. We saw a large Dutch Reformed Church and after the tour ended I walked up to the Westerkerk. I walked up to the church and entered the church and took some pictures. I then walked back along the canal to the ship.

At 6:15 we had an introduction to the cruise and at 7PM we had dinner in the dinning room.

The ship was scheduled to leave Amsterdam at 11:30 PM but I went to bed at 10 PM.
