Wednesday, January 14, 2015

We are on the way to Taihoe, French Polynesia. We have a total of 8 days at sea. We had a time change today so I got another hour of sleep. After breakfast I went to "Good Morning Amsterdam". Today the guests was a group of two Tahitian and two Tahitian woman. They will be on the ship for a couple of weeks and will give lectures and teach some of the Tahitian culture. After this I went to another talk by Tom Goltz. Today he talked about why is Latin America so different from North America. He talked about how religion played a part in the difference between north and south America. In the afternoon, Paul Eschenfelder talked about how for a thousand years before the coming of the Europeans to Polynesia, a society existed which was remarkably successful, orderly, prosperous, fun loving. Hawaii is sub-part of Polynesia and some of the culture and language is similar. He mentioned about how many people died after the Europeans came.

This evening after dinner I went to the show put on by Francis Diatschenko. He is a Master Guitarist and is from Australia.

Today we are in the second day at sea on the way to Taihoae, French Polynesia. Because of the location and the direction we were traveling, we did not have internet service most of the day. After breakfast I went to "Good Morning Amsterdam". The guest today was Francis Diatschenko, who gave the show on the previous night. Next I went to a presentation by Shore Excursions Manager and Location Guide Barbara on the overland adventure tours. I have two of the tours scheduled and I saw some photos of what I will see. In the afternoon Tom Goltz discussed how the Spaniards looted the New World native empires of their gold and silver. The amount of gold and silver taken from the natives amounted to billions of dollars at todays value of gold and silver.

Tonight was the second formal night. The theme tonight was Black and Silver and after dinner was the 2015 Grand Black and Silver Ball. Several prizes were given away including a watch with diamonds valued at over two thousand dollars.

Today we are on the third day at sea on the way to Taihoae, French Polynesia. We had another time change so I got another hour of sleep. The Captan changed the course of the ship so we could get internet coverage. After breakfast I went to "Good Morning Amsterdam". The guest today was Ben, the artist in residence. Ben teaches drawing classes on the ship. Next I went to here Barbara talk about things to see & do in Nuku Hiva. In the afternoon I went to hear Paul Eschenfelder talk on "Living with an Active Volcano" He talked about how the Polynesian islands came to be formed, why they appear as they do today and what's it's like to live with an active volcano in Hawaii or New Zealand.

The show tonight was given by Jeff McBride. He is a three time Guinness World Record Holder. He did magic. with a blend of illusions, Masks and Kabuki Theater. His magic was as good as I have seen. I have not seen most of the acts that he did from any other magician.

The internet service was not available during the late afternoon and evening hours today.
