Day 16 to Day 17 - World Cruise 2015 (At Sea)

Tuesday, January 20, 2015

Today is the seventh day at sea. The time today was set back by 1/2 hour. After breakfast I went to "Good Morning Amsterdam". This show is well attended and today the guest was Bernie Fields. He gave the show for the previous night. He played the harmonica and demonstrated the playing of the harmonica. He also stated that there are only a few who play the harmonica for a living. He uses several harmonicas each year and each harmonica that he uses cost $300. At 10 AM, Barbara presented the things to see & do in Rarotonga. In the afternoon, Tom Goltz presented the story of Princess Nahi'ena ena who was caught between Cultures. This is the early story of the early days of Hawaii in the missionary era and the balance between Christianity introduced by the missionaries and old cultures of the natives.
Tonight at dinner was the third formal night. Tonight the theme was a French theme. The show tonight was put on by the cast of the Singers and Dancers. The group includes two female dancers, two male dancers, and two female singers and two male singers.

Today is the eighth day and the last day at sea. The time today was set back by 1 hour. During all eight days at sea, we had very good sea conditions. It was sunny every day. I did see anything but sea for all eight days. The nearest land was miles away and I did not see any birds. I can only think of how James Cook found his way around this area. After breakfast I went to "Good Morning Amsterdam". Today the guest was the Amsterdam Singers and Dancers. This group comes to us from an organization in the UK. Only one of the nine are from the USA. They will be on the ship for the entire world cruise. At 10 AM, Paul Eschenfelder talked on space travel. He gave a short history of space travel and had an interesting video produced by Virgin on how people will travel to space when they get all the bugs out of their equipment. In the afternoon, I went to a talk by Tom Goltz on how Captain David Porter took possession of the Nuku Hiva at America's first naval base in the Pacific after battling with the natives and renaming the island after President James Madison.
Tonight before dinner, I went to a game of trivia with a twist. It's not how much you know, it's how many people agree with you. After dinner the show was put on by the "Alley Cats". This is the second show they have put on.
Tomorrow the ship arrives at Taihoae, Nuka Hiva, French Polynesia. Fort the next 15 days we be at a land stop for 10 of the days.
