We are sailing toward Manta, Ecuador. After I long and hot day sailing the Panama Canal, I was ready for a sea day. This was a normal sea day for me. I listened to Paul Eschenfeider talking about the history of sailing the Pacific Islands and how they became populated by homogeneous people. I have heard talks on this subject before but he gave some new information that I had not heard before. At 2 PM, Tom Goltz gave some insight into Conquistador Francisco Orellana, founder of Guayaquil, Ecuador. The early Europeans were all looking for gold and when they found it they raided may of the sites and stoled their gold. Francisco Orellana ended up traveling the length of the Amazon River from its origin in the Andes to the Atlantic.
In my spare time I worked on the pictures that I took in the Panama Canal. I did not go to dinner in the dinning room because I wanted to see the football game between the Oregon Ducks and the Ohio State Buckeyes. The ship had the game on in the theater. They had some snacks to eat and of course they were selling beer and soda. The game ended and I went to bed because as I had to get up early to catch a tour in Manta.
