Today the ship arrived at Tanjung Priok, Java, Indonesia at 8 AM. Located near the port is the city of Jakarta. It is the capital of Indonesia. It was initially settled as the port of Sunda Kelapa by the Hindu Kingdom of Sunda in the fifth-century The port flourished and attracted the attention of other maritime invested nations including the Portuguese, Dutch and British. 90% of Java is Muslin.
The ship was a little late in getting the ship cleared so we left at 9 AM or 45 minutes late for a tour called "Safari Park,, Bogor Botanical Garden & Countryside". After driving they the town of Jakarta we arrived at Taman Safari Park at 10:30 AM. We had three busses and a police escort. Many of the roads were freeway and the traffic was heavy and the police car cleared the lane for the three busses. The Safari is a drive thru park. We rode in the bus to see the animals. The park contains many animals from all over the world in a unique setting. The only problem was that we had to shoot pictures from the bus. As we neared the end of the Safari it started to rain. The Taman Safari Park is recognized as on of the most successful breeding centers f endangered species in the world. Sumatran and albino tigers, rhinoceros and Chinese bears are just a few of the species that roam freely throughout the park. In the rain we went to another section of the parks where you could have your photo with a tiger and other animals. Our next stop was the Gunung Mas Tea Plantation. In the rain we saw tea plants and had a cup of tea. Our next stop was a visit to the Bagor Botanic Garden, the oldest of its kind in Asia, conceived at the order of Sir Stamford Raffles and officially opened in 1817. The enchanting garden exhibits an impressive 17,000 species of plants, from Indonesia and abroad. The rain had stopped before we arrived at the Botanic Garden.
The area that we traveled was around the city of Bogor, about 38 miles south of Jakarta. In the days before Independence, this was the most important Butch hill stations, midway between the mountains and the heat-ridden planes. Governor-General wan Imhoff is credited with its discovery in 1745. We got back to the ship at a little after 4:30 PM. The ship left at 6 PM.
The show tonight was put on by Doug Starks. It was his second show.
Below are some pictures from my tour.
