Day 96 (Part 1 or 2) - World Cruise 2015 (Kalambaka, Greece to Delphi, Greece)

Saturday, April 11, 2015

The night was spent at a hotel in Kalambaka, Greece.  At 8 AM the bus left Kalambaka for Delphi.  Delphi was considered by the ancients to be the physical and spiritual center of the earth.  We drove the same highway which we came to Kalambaka and we had a comfort stop at 9:30 AM at the same place that we stopped on the previous day.  At about 12 noon we arrived at Delphi and we visited the museum.  The museum was great and we saw many of the best statues etc. from the archeology sites.  At 1:20 PM we started our tour of the archeology site at Delphi called The Sanctuary of Apollo.  It is located nearly 2,000 feet up on the slopes of Mount Parnassus.  The site was built into a hill and the slope from bottom to top was large.  I walked up about 1/2 of the way and did not go to the top so I did not get to see the theater and stadium.  The site is a religous site where people came from all over the ancient world to seek the advice of the god.  We left the site at 2:30 PM and arrived at a restaurant at 3 PM for lunch.  At 4 PM we left the restaurant and arrived at the Apollonia Hotel at 4:45 PM.  I left the hotel and walked around the area and returned to the hotel.  The hotel was not a very good hotel.  The hotel was located in the hills and it was hard for the bus to get to the hotel.  In my room several things did not work.  Since we had a late lunch I did not eat anything for dinner.

Below are part 1 of my pictures on my overland tour from Kalambaka to Delphi.  See part 2 for additional pictures.
