Today was the second day in Nuku'Alofa, Tonga. After breakfast I went on a tour called "Historic Nuku'alofa". We left the ship for a 9 AM tour. We explored Tonga's capital city and the eastern shore of Tongatapu Island. Our first stop was at the Royal Palace. We only got to look at the Royal Palace from outside the fence. Our next stop was at the Royal Tomb where King George Tupou I - the founder of modern Tonga - and his descendants are buried. Our next stop was to Lapaha, the ancient capital of Tonga's kings. This was the area of the Tui Tonga, the rulers of the island from 1200 to 1865. All that remains of the palace complex are 28 terraced and unexcavated royal tombs. Our next stop was at Cook's Landing Place where Captain James Cook landed in Tonga in 1777. Our last stop was at the Ha'smonga Trilithon, an ancient stone arch thought to have been used as an astronomical calendar. We arrived back at the ship at 12 Noon. The tour guide was very good. She said that she was part of the service at hew church and she sang some songs for us. Tonga is a very Christian country and she mentioned several times of her commetment to Jesus. On the way to the sites we saw many churches and our guide said that most of the people in Tonga attend church on Sunday.
I wanted to go to the post office to buy some stamps so I walked back to the post office, bought some stamps and walked back to the ship. I stopped at the room and headed to the Queen's Lounge. The game started at 12:30 PM and I arrived to see the game at 12:40 so I missed the start. The ship had mini hot dogs and hamburgers plus pizza, chips etc.
When the game ended, the ship was just pulling away from the dock. I went to the room and grabbed the camera and took some pictures as we left Tonga.
Tonight after dinner there was no show but only a movie. I did not go to the movie and after dinner I went back to the room.
Below are some pictures taken of Tonga today.
