Day 47 - World Cruise 2015 (Fremantle, Australia)

Saturday, February 21, 2015

Today the ship arrived at Fremantle, Australia at 6 AM.  Fremantle is a main port for Western Australia.  20 kilometers from Fremantle is the lively capital city of Perth, a city of 2 million people.  Perth has been named one of the world's top 10 most livable cities.  Its climate is Mediterranean.  History here starts 40,000 years ago when the first Aboriginal people arrived.  Modern history starts 200 years ago with the arrival of the first Europeans.  Perth is on the Swan river and outside of Perth is the Swan Valley wine region.  In the 1850's the town of Fremantle was the destination for prisoners.  Still standing is the Fremantle Prison.  It was Western Australia's main maximum security prison until its closure in 1991.

At 12:30 PM, I took a tour called "Caversham Wildlife Park & River Cruise".  We took a short bus ride to a board a boat for a 75-minute cruise down the famous Swan River.  We saw many of the home built on the hills overlooking the river and lots of boats in the river and parked near the shore.  After we arrived at the boat dock in Perth we boarded a bus and had a brief sightseeing tour of Perth and then headed to the Caversham Wildlife Park.  The part contained the famous Australian animals such as Koalas and Kangaroos in their natural habitat.  It contained many birds.  Australia has more native animals and birds then any other country.  Many of these animals can only be seen in Australia.  We spent 2 hours at the park and rode the bus back to the ship.  We arrived at the ship at 6:45 PM.  The ship had a special Aussie Outback BBQ on the LIDO deck so I ate here and not in the dinning room.

Tonight Debby Bacon played the piano and sang under the stars on the back deck of the ship.  I went for awhile but the wind was blowing and it was cold outside so I left and saw the last part of the movie "The Hunger Games: Mockingjay - Part 1".  I then returned to the room and worked on downloading my pictures.

Tonight we will spend the night in the port at Fremantle.

Below are some pictures from the first day in Fremantle and my tour.
