World Cruise 2017

World Cruse 2017

On Jan 4, 2017 I left on a round the world cruise on Holland America ms Amsterdam from Ft. Lauderdale.  We returned to Ft. Lauderdale on April 26, 2017.  The map below shows the route for the cruise.  The ship did not stop in Saipan because of weather problems.  I could not get on the ships internet while on the ship so I could not make daily postings.   When I got home I updated the blog.  The blogs from the days when the ship was in a port include several pictures.  All the blogs are dated in June 2017.

World Cruise 2017 Day 111 Ft. Lauderdale

Wednesday, April 26, 2017

Today the ship arrived in Ft. Lauderdale.  This was the last day of the 2017 World Cruise.  I had a 11:50 flight from Ft. Lauderdale to Atlanta so I was in the first group to leave the ship.  At a little past 8 AM I left the ship and went to the area to find my bags, which I had put out in the hall on the night before.  It was not easy to find the bags as Holland America puts too many bags in one place.  I did find my bags and with the help of a porter I left to go thru security.  Their was no line at security and I got to the outside of the terminal where I left two bags with FedEx and took one bag, a carry on and my camera bag with me to the bus for the transfer to the Ft. Lauderdale airport.  The first bus was full and I had to wait on the second bus.  I got to the airport a little past 9 AM.  Our flight took off on time and the plane arrived in Atlanta about 10 minutes early. I had to change terminals and I got to the gate and waited for the 3 PM flight to Wichita.  The plane left on time and because the plane had only a short wait for takeoff the plane arrived in Wichita at 4 PM or about 20 minutes early.  I got my bags and looked for my ride from Carol and Jim Howard.  I saw them in their car and I walked to their car.  They were surprised to see me because they thought that the plane had not landed.  They took me home and I was happy to be home after 111 days on the ship.
