World Cruise 2017 Day 28 Majuro, Marshall Islands

Thursday, February 2, 2017

Today the ship arrived at the Marshall Islands at 8 AM.  The Marshall Islands were used by the USA for bomb test.  At Majuro where the ship docked the land was a narrow strip of land in a semi-circle.  I left the ship and took a shuttle bus to a museum.  It was a distance of about 5 miles.  I took a tour of the museum and listend to some music put on by the locals  and then walked about 5 minutes to the post office where I bought some stamps.  I was back on the ship by about 11 AM.  The show tonight was put on by Lance Ringnald.  He put on a variety show of jugging, played some piano and showed off his Gymnast skills.  His Gymnast skills were hand stands and he spent time on silks hanging from the ceiling.  Lance is now in his 40's and won gold medals in the Olympics.  He was world champion several times and was in the 1988 and 1992 Olympics.  Lance was also on the 2015 World Cruise.

Majuro is the capital and largest city of the Republic of the Marshall Islands. It is also a large coral atoll of 64 islands in the Pacific Ocean. It forms a legislative district of the Ratak (Sunrise) Chain of the Marshall Islands. The atoll has a land area of 9.7 square kilometres (3.7 sq mi) and encloses a lagoon of 295 square kilometres (114 sq mi). As with other atolls in the Marshall Islands, Majuro consists of narrow land masses.
The main population center, named Delap-Uliga-Djarrit, DUD - three contiguous motus, had 20,301 people as of 2012. Majuro has a port, shopping district, hotels, and an international airport.
