Today the ship arrived at Puerto Vallarta, Mexico at 8 AM. Puerto Vallarta has become a relaxing vacation spot and today it is a top vacation destination in the world. At 8:40 I left on a tour call "Colonial San Sebastian". The tour left Puerto Vallarta for San Sebastian nestled in the heart of the Sierra Madre Mountains at an elevation of 4,850 feet. San Sebastian began when silver was found. It is a town of 600 residents and it retains its colonial heritage of the 1700s of cobblestone streets and old buildings. On the road to San Sebastian we saw a different Mexico than the city of Puerto Vallarta. I took this trip to see parts of Mexico outside of the city. The bus arrived in San Sebastian at 10:45 PM and we had an early lunch and after lunch we walked across the street to view some coffee trees and hear a presentation on coffee. We then had a walk to the center of town where we arrived at 12:45 PM. We toured a old family house where we learned about the history of the family. Later we walked to the 18th century church. After a visit to the church, some of us took a van back to the bus. At about 1:30 PM we left and stopped at a Distillery for a demo of the process. We left at 2:20 PM and arrived back at the ship at 3:55 PM. AT 5:30 PM I went to dinner and after dinner I went to a show put on by 4EVER. They are a group of 4 men from Spain sang different styles from Pop to Opera to Rock. They were very good and were enjoyed by everyone.
Puerto Vallarta is a Mexican beach resort city situated on the Pacific Ocean's Bahía de Banderas. The 2010 census reported Puerto Vallarta's population as 255,725 making it the fifth largest city in the state of Jalisco, and the second largest urban agglomeration in the state after the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area. The City of Puerto Vallarta is the government seat of the Municipality of Puerto Vallarta which comprises the city as well as population centers outside of the city extending from Boca de Tomatlán to the Nayarit border (the Ameca River). The city is located at 20°40′N 105°16′W. The municipality has an area of 1,300.7 square kilometres (502.19 sq mi). To the north it borders the southwest part of the state of Nayarit. To the east it borders the municipality of Mascota and San Sebastián del Oeste, and to the south it borders the municipalities of Talpa de Allende and Cabo Corriente.
Puerto Vallarta is named after Ignacio Vallarta, a former governor of Jalisco. In Spanish, Puerto Vallarta is frequently shortened to "Vallarta", while English speakers call the city P.V. for short. In internet shorthand the city is often referred to as PVR, after the International Air Transport Association airport code for its Gustavo Diaz Ordaz International Airport.
San Sebastián del Oeste is a town and municipality, located on the western part of Jalisco state, Mexico, between 20°39'45'' - 21°02'30'' N and 104°35'00'' - 104°51'00'' W, at a height of 1,480 metros (4,856 ft).
San Sebastián was founded as a mining town in 1605, during the early Spanish colonial Viceroyalty of New Spain period. Gold, silver and lead were mined in the area. More than 25 mines and a number of foundries were established by 1785.
The town was formally established as a city in 1812.
