Today the ship arrived i Honolulu, Oahu, Hawaii at 7 AM. At 10:30 AM I left on a tour called "Pearl Harbor History & Honolulu". We drove through parts of the city taking in the downtown area and City Hall, as well as the authentic Chinatown District. Other sites include the Iolani Palace, the only royal palace on American soil, Kawaiahao Church, the impressive statue of King Kamehameha, the Hawaii State Capitol, the governor's mansion, and the quaint homes of the early missionaries. We drove up to the Nauanu Pali Lookout for a spectacular view of th windward coast o fOahu. The Pali is the site where King Kamehameha the Great vanquished his enemies and unified the Kingdom of Hawaii. We drove to the Punchbowl Crater where the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific is located district. Our next stop was at the Arizona Memorial Visitors center where we arrived at noon. I walked around the center and took some pictures. Our time to tour the Arizona Memorial was 1:45 PM. We first watched a video for 3 minutes and boarded a boat to ride to the Memorial. The memorial is located above the Arizona. We spent about 30 minutes at the memorial and arrived back at the visitors centers at 3 PM. We got back on the bus and arrived back on the ship at 3:30 PM. I went to my room and took my computer back to the terminal to see if I could find an internet connection. After some time I could not get a connection. Tonight at 9:30 PM the ship had a special Polynesia show of drums and dancers. I used my new camera to make a video of part of their show. The ship spent the night in the harbor.
Honolulu is the capital and largest city of the U.S. state of Hawaii. It is an unincorporated part of and the county seat of the City and County of Honolulu on the island of Oahu. The city is the main gateway to Hawaii and a major portal into the United States. The city is also a major hub for international business, military defense, as well as famously being host to a diverse variety of east-west and Pacific culture, cuisine, and traditions.
Honolulu is the most remote city of its size in the world and is both the westernmost and the southernmost major U.S. city. For statistical purposes, the U.S. Census Bureau recognizes the approximate area commonly referred to as "City of Honolulu" (not to be confused with the "City and County") as a census county division(CCD). Honolulu is a major financial center of the islands and of the Pacific Ocean. The population of the city of Honolulu was 337,256 as of the 2010 census,[4] while the Honolulu CCD was 390,738[11] and the population of the consolidated city and county was 953,207.
Honolulu means "sheltered harbor" or "calm port". The old name is said to be Kou, a district roughly encompassing the area from Nuuanu Avenue to Alakea Street and from Hotel Street to Queen Street which is the heart of the present downtown district.[14] The city has been the capital of the Hawaiian Islands since 1845 and gained historical recognition following the attack on Pearl Harbor by Japan near the city on December 7, 1941.
As of 2015, Honolulu was ranked high on world livability rankings, and was also ranked as the 2nd safest city in the U.S. It is also the most populated Oceanian city outside Australasia and ranks second to Auckland as the most populous city in Polynesia.
